You've done it. You've finally found the perfect dress to wear on your wedding day. That's one giant thing that you can tick off your ever-expanding to do list!
So what next? The all important headpiece and jewellery, which will complement you and your dress perfectly, that's what.
There are so many tiaras, crowns, combs, hairpins and jewellery to choose from, it can almost feel like you're back at the beginning again, feeling like you did when you were choosing your wedding dress.
Zoiks! How do you stop the panic from setting in again?
Calm down, make a cup of tea (or pour a glass of wine), sit back and relax while we take you through the common sense approach to choosing the perfect tiara and jewellery for you.
Step One: Make a list of everything you need to consider when choosing your headpiece.
1. The style of your dress - including shape, colour, embellishments, fabric
2. Your intended hairstyle - whether it is long or short, if you intend on wearing it up or down, straight or curly
3. Do you want a tiara, a crown or an alternative, such as a hair comb, hairpins or a hair vine?
4. Are you wearing a veil?
These four things might seem basic, but they're the first things to consider before even looking at headpieces.
Many brides often choose a dress style which is completely opposite to how they would normally dress. It just happens that way, when you try on a dress that you wouldn't normally dream of trying and it turns out to be perfect on you. For example, if you normally like Gothic, dark styles, but you've chosen a Grecian style dress or a beautifully sparkly romantic dress, it's probably best that you try to complement the dress with your jewellery and headpiece, rather than try to revert back to your own style.
Now that's not to say that you shouldn't stamp your own personality on to your outfit, after all it is your wedding day. But there's no point in choosing a tiara made using your favourite gemstone, such as moonstone for example, which reflects blue tones in the light, if the embellishments on your dress are diamantes and crystals which reflect warm tones in the light. It just doesn't work.
